November 2024 in Review

2nd December 2024

It’s December already and with that, 2024 is nearly over.

This is always our busiest time of the year, perfectly illustrated by the fact this post is going up a day late! Let’s have a look back at November, which sped past in a bit of a blur. Read on to find out what Team GSWFB got up to…

As mentioned, this is our busiest time of the year and the festive season sees various places collecting for us. We’re so grateful for everyone who decides to do this, it really makes a huge difference. With this in mind we launched our Christmas Collection posters and social media posts. If you’re inspired to hold your own collection for us, get in touch and we can send you posters to print and display.

Having gone to collect at their first gig last month, Claire and Sarah got to go to another one! Evidently gig collections are like buses! We were invited to be the charity collectors at Squeeze’s Glasgow night of their tour. Out came the GSWFB t-shirts again and the girls had a great Monday night collecting food, money and chatting to fans of the band. Thanks to Squeeze, Phil and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for having us.

Claire was also in the press this month, Glasgow Evening Times came along to our Priesthill Foodbank Centre to interview her as part of their Bank on Us campaign. Claire discussed the rise we have seen in people using our Centres, particularly elderly people and how we expect to see that continue across the winter months. November also saw the annual Trussell and Tesco Winter Collection. Held over three days, GSWFB were hosted in store by Tesco Extra Silverburn. Stewart was there on days 1 and 2 supported by fabulous volunteers from NFU Mutual (some of who are pictured above) and then Tommy took the reins on day 3. He was supported by 2 great volunteers from Shared Services Connected Ltd and some of our Trustees. Thank you so much to everyone who donated, to the amazing Community Champion Michelle and to Tesco Silverburn for having us.

Finally, we were lucky enough to be one of the Foodbanks who received a share of the 100,000 items donated to Trussell by Cadbury this Christmas. We received a mixture of Cadbury Mini Snowball bags (Sarah’s yearly favourite!) and Cadbury dairy Milk Winter Wonderland bars. These will go into as many parcels as possible in the week leading up to Christmas. Thank you to Cadbury for donating and to Trussell for facilitating.

November saw us operate 21 foodbank sessions spread between our 5 Foodbank Centres, our highest attended sessions of the year so far. No training sessions for any staff this month but we always try to keep our diaries free of those at this time of year, we’re just too focused on operations.

So, it was a busy month all told and it definitely seemed to go past very quickly.

December is traditionally our busiest month of year, let’s see what it has in store for us….
