It’s October and Autumn is here, the mornings are darker and it’s getting colder. This happens to be one of our team members favourite month of the year (I’ll let you take a guess as to which one!).
With the start of another new month, let’s have a look back at September, which was very busy for us behind the scenes. Read on to find out what Team GSWFB got up to…
At the start of the month our Development Manager marked a milestone birthday! Claire has been with the organisation for most of its ten years, first as a volunteer and then as a staff member, so she’s a familiar face to a lot of you. Always being roped into a picture for something, at least this time she got a balloon!
With Autumn comes Harvest and the tradition of donating food to others. If you’re part of a local school or church, you may well have had Stewart contacting you this month asking about your Harvest Collection. This isn’t something we’ve done before but is something we’d be interested into looking into more. Let us know your thoughts.
The middle of the month saw the work going on in the background on a big project come to life. We have been working with Trussell on our fabulous new look and September was launch month! Trussell decided to rebrand and launched this on the 17th of September. They talk all about the reasons behind this choice on their own blog post published on the day. You can read that here.
So, what does that mean for us? Other than a facelift, nothing! Despite the makeover, we are very much still ‘us’ and still dedicated to helping those in need in our community. Our Foodbank Centres all continue to operate as normal and any Foodbank Vouchers issued before the change are still valid. You will see our posters, social media and website change in look but all that is done ‘in house’ by Sarah.
Finally, we attended Trussell’s Regional Forum in Glasgow’s Merchant House with lots of other Scottish Foodbanks. It was a great opportunity to discuss the successes and challenges being faced across the country and to swap ideas with each other. These events are so helpful for us, we’re all so busy that finding time to catch up can be hard but it’s always so rewarding and recharging.
September saw us operate 21 foodbank sessions spread between our 5 Foodbank Centres. Our staff undertook training sessions with Trussell and meetings with them about our makeover! We’re one of the first organisations in the network to undertake the changes. As you can imagine, that has been really exciting for us and we’d love to hear what you think.
September was a really busy month behind the scenes, for Sarah in particular, but with no interruption to normal operations. We hope these month in review posts continue to give you a better idea of what we get up to.
October has more excitement in store, let’s get started….
