September?! Let’s have a look back at August, which was very quiet for us in terms of extra curricular activity but busy, busy in our Foodbank Centres. Read on to find out what Team GSWFB got up to…
Tesco have had an alternative to a national collection operating for the last few weeks. This stand had bags that you could buy with your shopping, that then came to us. This made picking up donations easier for you and helped us plug gaps in our supply by picking the bag contents. Thank you Tesco!
We can’t mention the Tesco bag scheme without saying a huge thank you to Tesco Silverburn Community Champion Michelle who was packing the bags for us. If you’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Michelle, you’re missing out! She’s an absolute star and we’re so grateful for her hard work.
August of course saw the end of the school summer holidays. Summer is an expensive time for families, between keeping the kids entertained and then kitting them out for back to school. It always leads to a rise in our numbers and we want to emphasise there is no shame in that, we’re here to help, use us.
Back to school also saw another donation of children’s supplies to us, stationery for back to school. Thank you so much to the thoughtful donor, who wishes to remain anonymous. Who doesn’t love starting a new year with some lovely new stationery (even as an adult 😉 )?
Applications are now closed for the Trustee vacancies we had advertised and we look forward to meeting our new Trustees! With this came the formal resignation of those that have chosen to move on. We are so sad to see them go and wish them the very best in their new adventures.
August saw us operate 22 foodbank sessions spread between our 5 Foodbank Centres. Our staff undertook training sessions with The Trussell Trust and meetings about some exciting upcoming changes as well! While you might not always see us, we are beavering away in the background making things happen.
As mentioned, August was a quiet month in terms of doing things out with normal operations. We hope these month in review posts continue to give you a better idea of the scope of what we get up to.
September has lots of exciting things in store, let’s get it underway….
