Well, well, well, August already?! Let’s have a look back at July, which was admittedly quiet for us in terms of extra curricular activity. Read on to find out what Team GSWFB got up to…
Morrisons held a nationwide food drive and chose us as the charity beneficiary for their Cardonald branch. We were in store between the 4th and 6th and were thrilled to collect just over a tonne of food in donations! Thank you so much to all the customers and staff who donated and Morrisons for having us.
Day one of our Morrison’s collection also happened to be the date of the General Election. We had to close our Priesthill Foodbank Centre for it to be used as a polling station… As a charity we retain a party politically neutral stance, but we hope the new UK government will work hard to tackle the many causes of poverty and food insecurity.
Not only did we get a new UK Government at this election but also new local MPs and constituencies! Our new local MPs are Dr Zubir Ahmed in Glasgow South West and Alison Taylor in Paisley and Renfrewshire North. We look forward to working with them and wish them all the best in their new roles
The school summer holidays are in full swing and the sun has even appeared! We know this time of year can be a real struggle for families and we were very thoughtfully donated some craft and activity packs to give out to children coming along to our Foodbank Centres. Thank you so much for these, they’ve gone down a treat!
We did mention this last month, but the advert is still ‘live’ so thought, why not say it again? We have some vacancies on our Board of Trustees. If you would like to get involved with the running of Glasgow South West Foodbank now is your chance! Read more about the roles available here.
July saw us operate 22 foodbank sessions spread between our 5 Foodbank Centres. Our staff undertook training sessions with The Trussell Trust and lots of meetings as well! One (Sarah), had her birthday towards the end of the month and most of us are enjoying the improvement in the weather.
As mentioned, July was a quiet month in terms of doing things out with normal operations. We hope these month in review posts continue to give you a better idea of the scope of our work.
August, let’s do this….
