June 2024 in Review

1st July 2024

June, where did you go?! It was a quieter one for us this month and yet it seemed to fly by. Read on to find out some of what Team GSWFB got up to in Juneā€¦

We were invited to have a stall at Volunteer Glasgow’s Community Volunteering Fair at the start of the month. It was lovely to meet so many other organisations doing great things in our area and of course to meet so many people looking to volunteer some of their time!

Speaking of volunteers, this month also saw the fortieth anniversary of Volunteers’ Week. We are so grateful to everyone who volunteers their time with us. We couldn’t operate without them so thank you so much to our amazing volunteers. You see us say this a lot but it’s absolutely true, so thank you.

Sadly, we have had some vacancies come up on our Board of Trustees. If you have ever wanted to sit on a board or would like to get involved with the running of Glasgow South West Foodbank now is your chance! Read more about the roles available here.

With the upcoming General Election, we offered help to anyone attending one of our Foodbank Centres to register to vote. Since for this election, in order to be able to vote you will need to show valid photographic ID, we also offered help to those who needed to apply for a free Voter Authorisation Certificate.

The start of the summer holidays saw us working with local schools to ensure provision is made for families worried about how to keep their children fed over the break. We see an increase in families referred to us over this period each year and expect this year to be no different. If you need help, please ask.

June saw us operate 20 foodbank sessions spread between our 5 Foodbank Centres. Our staff undertook training sessions with The Trussell Trust, Samaritans, HSCP, Health in Mind and Thirtyone:Eight. One (Sarah) has even added decorator/flat pack builder to her bushel of talents with a house move!

As mentioned, it was a bit of a quieter month but that doesn’t mean a rest for us. This is only some of what we did in June, but we hope these month in review posts give you a better idea of the scope of our work.

Onwards to July!
