May 2024 In Review

1st June 2024

It’s already been a month since our first blog entry and it’s been another busy one! Read on to find out some of what Team GSWFB have been up to this month…

We publicly launched our new ‘Donate’ buttons on our website! This is a big step forward, we had previously only taken financial donations online using Just Giving (which you can still do if you prefer). The new buttons make the process faster and easier. You can find them at the top right, mid right and bottom left of your screen.

You might have seen in the media, we had a special guest, Sanjeev Kholi. Perhaps best known as Naveed in Still Game, he came to work with us for a morning. We spent time chatting about the challenges we’re facing, what we’re doing to help people in crisis in our community and he helped us pack some food parcels.

As part of The Trussell Trust network of foodbanks, our figures contributed to those which were released this month. These numbers sadly show a record number of food parcels were given out nationwide and we continue to see that demand reflected locally. Read more about the end of year stats here.

We held a three day Food Drive at Asda Superstore Govan. Thank you to those who came and volunteered to help us run the event and thank you so much to all the staff and shoppers who donated. We collected just over a tonne of food during the three days! A fantastic result and one which made a huge difference to us.

Our staff went to the Rolling Roadshow. An annual event bringing the network of foodbanks together to learn from each other and The Trussell Trust. We had an inspiring day and learned more about the Essentials Guarantee Campaign among many other things. If you’d like to read about the campaign, you can here.

May saw us operate 22 foodbank sessions spread between our 5 Foodbank Centres. Our staff undertook training sessions with Trussell Trust, The Scottish Refugee Council, Volunteer Glasgow and Police Scotland along with a visit on Thursday to Govan Fire Station.

It was another busy month that went very quickly! Of course, this is only a fraction of the work we did in May, but we hope these month in review posts give you a better idea of the scope of our work.

Let’s see what June has in store…
