Our Blog and April 2024 in Review

1st May 2024

We thought we’d try something new (why not?) and use this section of the website to host a blog as well as news/announcements.

We know, blogging can be seen as a bit old school these days but, we think there’s still something to be said for it. No character limits, no platform restrictions and no algorithms! We thought we’d start with monthly round ups, so you can see what we’ve been up to, and take it from there.

April 2024 in Review

So, for this first entry in the blog, we are looking back at April 2024. What a whirlwind of a month!

April 1st was of course Easter Monday. We were very lucky this year to have donations of Easter Eggs from businesses as well as individuals. These generous donations allowed us to give Easter Eggs in food parcels to those celebrating and ensured each household member had their own egg.

We re-launched our social media this month, we currently use Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter). Clicking on the name of each will take you to our profiles, we’d love you to follow us and let us know what you think. The idea is to expand to include Linked In at some point as well.

We were able to re-open our Ibrox Foodbank Centre at Ibrox Parish Church. We had to vacate the building for refurbishment works to take place. As is the way with these things, the work took longer than expected. We have come back to a lovely new storage space, a fabulous café space and are back to our usual opening time of Monday afternoons between 12 noon and 2pm.

This was also the month of Eid al-Fitr, which took place on April 10th and is one of the most important events in the Islamic calendar. As you know, there is a large Islamic community in Glasgow South West. Thanks again to donations, we were pleased to be able to offer packages of dates in food parcels to those celebrating Eid.

We started our Foodbank Friday series on our social media. We will be updating our social media channels each Friday with the items we are most in need of that week. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter) to see these updates and help us to plug any gaps in our donations.

April saw us operate 22 foodbank sessions spread between our 5 Foodbank Centres. Our staff undertook training sessions with Trussell Trust, the Scottish Refugee Council and Samaritans. Sections of the website have been edited and updated, and our staff member Sarah will be continuing this work behind the scenes.

It was a busy month, that flew by very quickly! Of course, this is only a fraction of the work we did in April, but it hopefully gives you a flavour of what we got up to.

Onwards to May…
